Travel with Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology!
Tags: science exhibits family friendly musuem Orange County Events archaeology
Families staying in discount hotels near Disneyland may be wondering what other attractions Orange County holds beyond The Happiest Place
On Earth. Bring the kids to the Discovery Science Center in nearby Santa Ana to the new “Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology” exhibit for a lesson in the science and history of field archaeology. Children can walk in the footsteps of Indiana Jones as they explore this interactive museum adventure.
The exhibit features a vast, exclusive collection of authentic “Indiana Jones” film props, models, concept art and set designs straight from the Lucasfilm Archives for the whole family. The National Geographic Society also offers the chance to see some of the world’s impressive material remains and artifacts from ancient societies. These artifacts came from collections such as the Penn Museum and the National Geographic Society archives. Children are given a handheld multimedia guide and the opportunity to participate in an interactive quest game while exploring the exhibit.
Indy Interactives include the Dig Zone, Green Screen, Build Table and Map Room. Kids can find out how strong they would need to be to lift themselves from the underground by using the ropes of a pulley system. At the Dig Zone, kids can dig through the sand for hidden treasure and use real archaeological tools to uncover artifacts. At the Build Table, kids can use wooden blocks to construct structures and decipher hieroglyph blocks.
All can enjoy the green screen technology of modern “Indiana Jones” movies by jumping in front of the exhibit’s green screen. In the map room, lights, mirrors and lasers can be used to find the historical dig site. There is plenty to discover and enjoy at the Discovery Science Center’s “Indiana Jones and Adventure of Archaeology” so be sure to stop by during your stay in Orange County!
