One of the most beautiful aspects of Orange County is its proximity to one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. A favorite sight-seeing activity in the area is whale-watching. In March, those staying in Anaheim hotel near Dana Point will be able to attend the Dana Point Festival of Whales. Once you get to Dana Point, there are FREE Festival shuttles that will transport you to every festival event. The Festival of Whales is a great way to explore a scenic area of Orange County!
You can experience Art in the Park both weekends all day long! Local artists and students will display their works along Island Way and Dana Point Harbor Drive. Live entertainment will also play throughout the day! There will also be a Show & Sale by the Dana Point Fine Arts Association on Harbor Boardwalk.
On March 2, you can witness the Festival of the Whales Parade! The celebration begins at 10am with a route along the Pacific Coast Highway from Selva Road to Golden Lantern. Arrive early to visit all the events happening all day at Harbor and La Plaza Park. Later that night, come see the original 1963 box office hit Flipper on the big screen at the park! Free popcorn, hot beverages and snacks will be available. Be sure to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinner. The movie will start at 6:30pm.
The 5000-mile migration of the majestic California Gray Whale from Alaska to Mexico begins in December until March. During its peak, 40-50 whales pass by Dana Point each day. Visit the Headlands Conservation Park for the best views of whales from land. You can also go hiking on the public trail system throughout the park.
Have a great weekend with the whales in Dana Point!
